The presentation considers applications of trajectory data in transportation planning. It presents numerous innovative applications of trajectory data for the state of Maryland, where visualization and machine learning are employed to extract value from 20 million GPS traces. The visual analytics developed herein is being implemented into Regional Integrated Transportation Information System, which provides free data sharing and visual analytics tools that help transportation agencies obtain situational awareness, evaluate performance, and share insights with the public.
